Fund for Shared Insight
Leading change with openness.
Fund for Shared Insight, a collaborative effort among funders, including household names like The Hewlett Foundation, Ford Foundation, and Kellogg Foundation, that pools financial and other resources to make grants to improve philanthropy.
There’s a ton to be done when starting something new. The hard part is making sure everything’s in sync, aligned with your vision. Including your visual identity and home on the web.
The Fund for Shared Insight team, including Hillary Pennington from The Ford Foundation, Fay Twersky from The William and Flora Hewlett Foundation, and project manager Melinda Tuan, envisioned a website embodying their organizational values of openness, feedback loops, and shared insight.

The Fund for Shared Insight aims to make an impact on the world by changing the infrastructure of philanthropy. Their key ingredients are openness and feedback, in a space generally not known for either.
The core funders made a 3-year commitment of $6MM a year to give grants to 501(c)(3) organizations advancing the practice of using feedback loops and the research base of how feedback is best collected. They’re all about feedback, feedback, feedback.
To communicate this through their visual identity and website, our expert design team put a lot of thought into making sure communication flowed well.
We chose a color palette to reflect their goal of changing the philanthropy ecosystem and created a visual identity with an open look and feel. Knowing full well that the world has gone mobile, we approached their site with smartphones and tablets in mind.
On the technical side of things, we helped implement smooth processes behind-the-scenes. Web forms that go into Google Drive. Setting up an email distribution list with MailChimp. And finding WebEx as the ideal webcast solution for their open conference calls engaging hundreds of people.
Together, the visual and the technical provide a solid foundation the Fund for Shared Insight will be building on for years to come.
After launch, we received kind words like “Kudos all around” and “Congratulations on a great launch” and “Ditto to all of the enthusiastic and appreciative comments”. What can we say? It was shared insight.
I'd like to thank our fabulous friends at Dayspring Technologies for putting together this website in three weeks' time from first phone call. Really remarkable and amazing work! I am over the moon with the quality of their work and their incredibly responsive, highly-detail oriented, and collaborative approach.
